Lotus: UK Operations Secure, No Threat to Norfolk Plant

Date:

Lotus has declared its UK operations secure, confirming there is no threat to its Norfolk plant. This reassurance was given to Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds during a Sunday meeting, dispelling concerns that the sports car manufacturer was considering moving production to the US and jeopardizing 1,300 jobs.
The situation arose after Lotus paused production at its Hethel factory in mid-May, citing inventory and supply chain issues exacerbated by US tariffs. However, with these tariffs now set to be significantly reduced, Lotus is preparing to resume its manufacturing activities.
A Department for Business and Trade spokesperson confirmed Reynolds “was reassured by management that they are committed to their UK operations and have no plans to close their Hethel plant.” This statement directly addresses the earlier speculation and provides a clear path forward for the Hethel facility.
Lotus itself affirmed on Saturday that “the UK is the heart of the Lotus brand” and its largest commercial market in Europe. While exploring “strategic options to enhance efficiency,” the company’s commitment to its sole UK site remains firm.
