Canada and Germany Reaffirm Support for Ukraine, Urge More Aid for Gaza

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz held discussions on the sidelines of the G20 summit in South Africa, focusing on the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza. In a joint statement released Sunday, both leaders stressed the need for a durable and fair resolution to ongoing global crises.
Carney and Merz reiterated their commitment to Ukraine, emphasizing that any peace agreement must involve Kyiv directly and protect the country’s core national interests. They also underscored the importance of concrete international security guarantees to ensure Ukraine’s long-term stability.
Turning to the situation in Gaza, the leaders reaffirmed their support for the Comprehensive Peace Plan aimed at ending the conflict. They called for urgent steps to allow large-scale humanitarian aid into the territory, highlighting the critical need for relief and reconstruction efforts.
The meeting also included discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation in advanced sectors such as critical minerals, clean energy, artificial intelligence, aerospace and defence, reflecting growing strategic alignment between the two nations.
