Israel vs. Hamas: Tensions Rise Over Peace Force Veto and Ceasefire Violations

Date:

Tensions between Israel and Hamas are rising despite a Trump-brokered truce, with disputes flaring over peacekeeping and ceasefire violations. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared Sunday that Israel will veto any nation it deems “unacceptable” for a planned international force in Gaza.
Netanyahu, who claims US backing, has already signaled he would block Turkey. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio supported this, saying the force must be “comfortable” for Israel and that Hamas must be excluded from power.
The truce was significantly tested by an Israeli strike on the Nuseirat camp. Hamas called it a “clear violation” and accused Netanyahu of undermining peace. Israel claimed the strike targeted Islamic Jihad militants.
This strike, the second in a week, complicates the fragile situation. The truce is also strained by the slow return of Israeli hostage remains. Hamas has returned 18 bodies, citing recovery difficulties, while Israel has returned 195 Palestinian bodies.
Donald Trump issued a public warning to Hamas, stating he is “watching very closely” and expects more bodies to be returned within 48 hours, as Hamas has yet to disarm.
