At the World Wrestling Championships, Iranian wrestlers emerged victorious in their finals against Hungarian opponents, securing two gold medals for Iran. In the heavyweight category, Fardin Hedayati claimed a commanding victory over Hungary’s Vitek. The match concluded swiftly in just 42 seconds with Hedayati achieving an 8–0 win by technical superiority. Hedayati’s strategy of pushing Vitek out of bounds, taking him down, and executing two turns proved effective, leaving Vitek struggling to implement his own game plan.
Vitek, a seasoned competitor at age 27, was competing in his third consecutive major international final. Despite his past successes, including a silver medal in last year’s World Championships and a bronze at the European Championships, he was unable to challenge Hedayati’s dominance in the final bout. Acknowledging his opponent’s superior performance, Vitek admitted that he couldn’t extend the match into the second period as he had hoped.
In the 72kg category, István Váncza of Hungary faced Iran’s Seyed Sohrabi. Váncza had an impressive journey to the gold-medal match, highlighted by a dramatic semifinal win over Georgia’s Yuri Lomadze. However, in the final, Sohrabi established an early lead, ultimately winning 4–0. Váncza attributed his loss to a defensive error in the second period that allowed Sohrabi to extend his lead.
For Váncza, this silver medal marked his first at the senior World Championships, complementing his European Championship silver earned in Budapest in 2022. Despite the defeat, Váncza acknowledged Sohrabi’s physical strength and credited his own wrestling skills with keeping him competitive throughout the match.
