Hungary Airlines Boosts Economy with Enhanced Cargo Service Solutions

Date:

Hungary Airlines is making strategic adjustments amidst shifting dynamics in the European air cargo sector. This comes on the heels of a new €3 customs duty on small shipments that was implemented on July 1, impacting e-commerce cargo volumes across the continent. Retailers experienced a surge in shipments in June as they hurried to transport goods ahead of the new rule. However, this was followed by a noticeable decline in July, coupled with longer processing times. Although the market is slowly stabilizing, the industry is also bracing for an additional €2 processing fee slated for November.

The airline’s flagship freighter, an Airbus A330-243F with the registration HA-LHU, was due for scheduled maintenance during this period. However, global supply-chain disruptions extended its C-check until mid-September. Hungary Airlines anticipates that the freighter will resume full operations by the end of the month. To cope with the evolving market conditions, the airline is planning to alter its route network, refine cargo-handling procedures, and momentarily reduce flight frequencies to enhance aircraft load factors.

In addition, the airline’s second aircraft, an Airbus A330-243P2F registered as HA-ZTO, is set to exit the fleet following the owner’s decision to sell it. Despite this, Hungary Airlines remains dedicated to expanding its fleet and is actively exploring leasing and other growth opportunities.

Looking to diversify its operations, Hungary Airlines is venturing into the specialized cargo market. Beginning in the third quarter, the airline plans to offer services for live-animal transportation and temperature-controlled cargo. By utilizing real-time monitoring technology, the airline aims to provide more specialized services and tap into higher-margin opportunities.
