Toshihiro Suzuki, the President of Suzuki Motor Corporation, made a visit to Budapest on Thursday. During his time in the Hungarian capital, he engaged in discussions with two key figures in the country’s government—Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Prime Minister Péter Magyar. The meetings aimed to address both current and future aspects of the automotive industry, especially in the context of global economic trends and technological advancements.
In his meeting with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, the dialogue centered around the worldwide economic climate and the automotive sector’s trajectory amidst the rise of electric vehicles and other new technologies. These discussions are particularly relevant as the industry navigates the complexities of transitioning to electric mobility. Suzuki’s longstanding involvement in Hungary has positioned it as a significant player in the region, making these talks vital for both parties.
Suzuki’s presence in Hungary dates back to 1991, when it established a local subsidiary. The following year, the company began vehicle production at its Esztergom plant, which has since become a cornerstone of Hungary’s automotive industry. This facility not only supports thousands of jobs but also significantly contributes to the country’s export economy, underscoring Suzuki’s impact on the local market.
After the meeting with Orbán, Toshihiro Suzuki also sat down with Prime Minister Péter Magyar. This session focused on exploring future investment opportunities and developmental plans within Hungary. They also continued the discussion on the challenges facing the global automotive industry, notably the shift towards electric mobility. Magyar praised Suzuki as one of Hungary’s most dependable foreign investors, a relationship that has spanned over three decades and remains pivotal for the nation’s economic landscape.
