In a world grappling with economic uncertainties and geopolitical tensions, China is seeking to strengthen its ties with Germany, emphasizing the importance of multilateralism and dialogue in international relations. This call for enhanced cooperation was the central theme of a phone conversation between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his German counterpart Johann Wadephul on Monday.

During the discussion, Wang Yi highlighted the mutual benefits of closer economic and strategic collaboration between the two nations. He underscored the need for increased communication and mutual trust, particularly as both countries navigate the complexities of the global economy. The Chinese foreign minister also advocated for Germany’s continued adherence to the one-China principle, focusing on maintaining stability across the Taiwan Strait.

The conversation also touched upon broader international issues, with both ministers expressing their commitment to addressing global challenges through peaceful means. Wang Yi reiterated China’s dedication to supporting peace efforts, particularly in regions such as Iran and Ukraine. He emphasized the value of dialogue over confrontation, advocating for the resolution of economic and trade differences between China and the European Union through diplomatic channels.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul responded positively, noting the sustained positive momentum in Germany-China relations. He expressed support for more high-level exchanges and deeper cooperation in trade and economic affairs, reaffirming Germany’s commitment to the one-China policy.

The dialogue between Wang and Wadephul reflects a broader effort to solidify partnerships amid a shifting global landscape.
