SECRO Transforms Trade Finance, Boosting Global Commodity Market Efficiency

Date:

Since its founding in the United States in 2021, SECRO has made significant strides in digitizing inventory and trade finance, particularly after expanding to Switzerland in July 2025. The platform has been instrumental in the digital transformation of commodity operations across more than 48 countries, successfully digitizing $3.5 billion worth of shipments. It has become a preferred choice for six of the world’s top ten largest commodity traders, alongside over 300 importers, exporters, and logistics service providers. As SECRO’s influence grows, its network expansion has been bolstered by the support of leading European tier-1 banks.

October 2025 marked a pivotal moment when Crédit Agricole CIB began utilizing SECRO’s proprietary blockchain technology to digitalize its transactional commodity operations. This collaboration quickly bore fruit, leading to the bank’s first digital commercial operation in the energy sector, involving a major global trader. The process involved issuing a digital document of title by the vessel master at sea, which was then seamlessly transferred to the shipper and stored in Crédit Agricole CIB’s SECRO digital vault. This innovative approach ensured secure control of the document throughout the voyage, allowing for digital endorsement to the final consignee and transfer upon settlement. This breakthrough has paved the way for future digital shipments, underscoring the potential for scaling digital negotiable instruments within the sophisticated Swiss commodity trading sector.

Building upon this momentum, ING joined the SECRO ecosystem in early 2026, following the lead of Crédit Agricole CIB. With a strong track record in commodity finance and digitization, ING is expanding the application of tokenization technology throughout its client portfolio to enhance trade finance operations. Moreover, ING’s Swiss branch is exploring the use of SECRO’s technology for inventory financing, potentially becoming the first bank to tokenize documents of title across the entire commodity finance value chain. As ING prepares to launch its digital trading operations with multiple clients, the network effect is expected to gain even more traction, with additional banks set to join the platform.

SECRO’s strategic choice of Switzerland as its European headquarters is underpinned by the country’s robust legal framework, particularly the Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) Act, which gives digital ledger-based securities the same legal standing as traditional paper documents. With its technology infrastructure based in Zurich, SECRO ensures unparalleled data protection and compliance with various international digital trade frameworks. The platform’s key advantages include reduced transactional risk, increased legal robustness, enhanced operational speed, and improved liquidity, making it a compelling choice for stakeholders across the commodity trading value chain.

By establishing itself as a leader in trade digitalization, SECRO has set a new industry standard with its patented tokenization technology. It ensures compliance with advanced digital trade laws and is recognized by major marine insurance carriers and the International Chamber of Commerce. As a SOC2-type 2 and ISO 27001 certified company, SECRO continues to deliver innovative solutions that enhance efficiency, transparency, and resilience for its clients in the rapidly evolving landscape of trade finance.
